Sea of Monsters

by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson's second quest takes him and his companions to the Sea of Monsters, or better known as the Bermuda Triangle. Full of action and adventure, this unique take on the Greek myths is an enjoyable read aloud.

Michael and I are excited about book three, The Titan's Curse!

The Yiddish Policemen's Union

by Michael Chabon

This is the first adult fiction I have read in a long time and it actually took me several attempts to understand the first few pages. Maybe I was just out of practice reading Fiction.

Michael Chabon is an excellent writer. I really enjoyed the way he describes a scene. For instance, when he compared two people playing chess to parentheses, I could immediately imagine two men, backs bowed, staring at a chess board contemplating their next move. Brilliant!

I would recommend this book. It felt at times like I was watching Blade Runner or Casablanca but in the end, as with most mysteries, I was left unsatisfied.

The Lightning Thief

by Rick Riordan

This is the first in the Lightning Thief series that my oldest has already read. Because he loved it so, my middle son started and is now on book 4. Not wanting to be left out, my youngest, Mike, asked me to read it to him.

We zipped through it. Rick Riordan does an amazing job of blending Greek Myth with the modern world at the same time humanizing ADHD that the main character has.

All my sons loved this book as did I.
