Sea Wolf: White Water, White Bloom

Charlie said: I am familiar with Sea Wolf from the song “You’re A Wolf” from the Current Vol. 4 album (thanks Tina!). I like that song for its sharp lyrics as well as its organic sound. The album White Water, White Bloom continues in that direction. This is a strong album.

I know why you are going to like this album Tina, throughout my first listen I was struck by the similarities between Sea Wolf and Connor Oberst. In the song “Orion & Dog” had to make sure that my iPod was not on shuffle. Along with vocal similarities to Bright Eyes, I also heard Tom Petty. This is good company to keep.

Each song is independent and grand but at the same time somewhat intimate. Alex Church wrote all ten song and weaves excellent stories which his voice tells with passion. I appreciate the production, excellent use of violins, woodwinds, and other orchestral instruments to create a big but not too big sound with the emphasis always on Church’s folksy voice.

My favorite songs on the album are Orion & Dog, Wicked Blood, Oh Maria!, and The Orchard. On the Tina-Charlie Promote It, Lend It, Deny It, I give “White Water, White Bloom” an enthusiastic Promote It.
