2013 New Years Resolutions!!!

I believe in New Years Resolutions, they help me strive to be better.  Thinking about what new resolutions I want to set for the coming year is fun.

For the record, these are my resolutions:

1- Run 500 miles.  This may kill me and will require many things that are not directly in my control.  I will need to have good health and avoid injures.  I think I will also need a lot of luck.  To record my progress, I am going to use Nike+.  I have a GPS watch that will recored all my runs.  Also, I will also write about my experience on this blog.

2- Read five books on Random House's list of the 100 Greatest Novels.  My mother an I pick the books and use Goodreads to write reviews about our thoughts.  This resolution may not directly affect my health, but it does force me to read getting me to bed earlier.  Our books this year are:  Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov, A House for Mr. Biswas by V.S. Naipaul, A High Wind in Jamaica by Richard Hughes, and Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

3- Better oral hygiene.  It may sound sick that I don’t already have great oral hygiene but I don’t.  I am going to brush my teeth in the morning when I get up and before I go to sleep at night.  This resolution will also include flossing once per day.

4- No sugar after 10 PM.  This is the time of day that I eat the worse.  Because of my work schedule, I often find myself "relaxing" after 10 PM and grabbing something sweet.  Not this year!

      I am expecting a great 2013!!!

New Years Resolutions Revisited

The following is a list of my 2012 resolutions along with a description of the progress and or success of each.  My goal was to focus on fitness and health.

1- Read 30 minutes a day.  I believe this will help me get to bed earlier.  My sleeping habits continue to be an issue.  I did not do a good job reading or going to be earlier.  FAIL!!!

2- Read the following five books on Random House Top 100 novels:  Under the Net by Iris Murdock, Scoop by Evelyn Waugh, The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad, Henderson the Rain King by Saul Bellow, and Appointment in Samarra by John O'Hara.  My mother and I did a great job reading these books, she has written a review of each which I will do during the next month.  Because that was not part of the resolution, SUCCESS!!!

3- Not to put my fingers in my mouth.  This seems silly but I bite my nails, skin around my nails, and cuticles.  It is sick! I did not succeed by the letter of this resolution but I did change my behavior regarding the bitting of my nails.  I still do it but much less.  My mother even commented on my "Beautiful nails!".  I'll take it.  PUSH!!!

4- Average 10,000 steps a day.  This is going to be difficult.  I rocked this.  As I write this (December 27th) I am over 110,000 steps over my goal.  I worked hard to achieve this goal and I am pleased how I did.  SUCCESS!!!

I am pleased with my 2012 and have been thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2013.  My list will appear soon.

A Pie In the Face

The staff at our building challenged our 100+ students to raise $500 for the local food shelf and our troops over seas.  If we could do it, six staff members would participate in a pie eating contest.

Here was the result:
