Questions

School starts tomorrow and I find myself asking myself important questions.

-1- What do I want my students to learn?

-2- How will I know if they have learned it?

-3- What will I do if/when they don't learn it?

I like to have an answer for these questions before I start teaching. I find it easier for the students when they know why the hell they are in my class.

This is Tim. I can't seem to sign in as myself even though I signed up again and even accidently started a new weblog - check it out: www.buddhistjihad.blogspot.com

Anyway my comment was:

You could ask them what they want to learn and how they will know if they have learned it.

I like the idea of asking someone what they want to learn. As a teacher I hope I could help my students along a path that encourages learning.

I was reflecting on question I ask myself to help me with my job. I feel that my students and I could answer the question "What do I want (my students) to learn?" differently but still successfully strive for each answer together. (If that makes sense)

Tim, I have asked student to show me they have learned something. It is fun to see some of the interesting project I get when we are studing Order of Operations!
